Whenever i play some games in my laptop, I am unable to change the resolution of the game. It's fixed to 1920 x 1080. I tried to change it manually by editing the game config file but it doesn't work. There are no other resolution options in the game. How can i lower my game resolution? My laptop is Asus Vivobook R542U. It has both integrated and dedicated graphics card.

What laptop do you have? Are you sure you have a graphics card, and not an integrated one? – Frank Jul 23 '18 at 19:47
  • What is the general type of game? Are they older titles or newer ones? – SPYBUG96 Jul 23 '18 at 20:52
  • Tried to change it to what, and what game? – Mazura Jul 27 '18 at 1:15
  • @Mazura 1366x768 and also 1280x720. Assassin's Creed Syndicate. – LegendaryCartoon Jul 30 '18 at 19:14
  • Check for a game.conf or a ac.ini to edit - or try deleting GFXSettings.ACS.xml – Mazura Jul 31 '18 at 1:00

To increase your screen resolution:

You can't.

Your laptop screen resolution at maximum is 1920 x 1080. You cannot increase this resolution because that is the limitation of the physical screen. You might be able to increase your resolution by buying a higher resolution secondary monitor, but it will put a strain on your laptop

To decrease your screen resolution:

  1. Make sure the game you want to play supports that resolution.
  2. Open the game and go to video options and change the resolution of the game to a lower one (if the option is there of course). If the option isn't there to lower it further than 1080, then the game doesn't support a lower resolution.

If that doesn't work or there is no option to change the resolution:

  1. Go into display settings in settings on your computer
  2. Look for the resolution drop down and pick a lower resolution there
  3. Load up the game and it should be playing at the lower resolution
  • do you have any solutions? Please i need some help. I tried the above method but it doesn't work. – LegendaryCartoon Jul 30 '18 at 19:09
  • LegendaryCartoon, what exactly are you asking here? To me it seems like you want to lower the game resolution. I assume you are using Windows Ten, go to Settings>System>Display and change the resolution to what you want. You can get to settings by pressing the windows button on the toolbar and pressing the gear icon. Edit: Something else I forgot to mention: if the resolution you are looking for in the game isn't there, then it doesn't support it. You should be able to change the resolution if you go into settings... – TwentyCharMax Jul 30 '18 at 20:07
  • @Alex Yes, I have Windows 10. I changed the resolution of my display in settings and then tried to run the game. But it doesn't work either. The game will still be in 1920 x 1080 resolution. The game supports other resolutions but for me its just 1080. What should i do? – LegendaryCartoon Jul 31 '18 at 5:14
  • @LegendaryCartoon Have you tried the second option, changing the display resolution in the game? – SPYBUG96 Jul 31 '18 at 5:16
  • Yes, but there is only one resolution option 1920 x 1080. Do i need to change my BIOS settings? @SPYBUG96 – LegendaryCartoon Jul 31 '18 at 5:23
