I heard somebody mention that it's possible able to get a permanent ability increase by talking to a hag, but he didn't really provide any details.

What permanent character changes (attribute increases or decreases) are there in the game (limited to early access for now, and NOT including equippable items) ?

To answer the "hag" storyline part (full game not EA): yes it is possible to get a permanent ability increase by +1 by finishing the hag quest. I did this in my current play-through. Some pretty big quest spoilers:

- Reveal that Ethel isn't just some adorable old lady but a villain.
- Find the secret passage in her home to have her reveal her true self.
- Find a way to go through the magic door in her lair.
- Beat up all the NPCs and then the hag herself in a classic "boss fight".
- Once beaten she'll plead for you to not kill her and if you spare her, the reward is to pick a stat of your choice which will get a +1 increase.

I'm pretty sure there are several ways this quest can be played out, with or without the various innocent NPCs getting killed in the process. Depending on your play style, you might want to take her up on the offer or not.

Also note that the fights are pretty tough so this isn't something you should be doing too early on in the "Act 1" map.

I will say that beating her is not enough for her to plead. You basically have to get her to go through all her special actions, like lighting the cage on fire, splitting in mirror images and transforming into the captured lady. Then you'll have to get her down to 10HP or less but don't kill her (or you won't get the pleading). Then just skip turns and she will start pleading.

  • @Lyrion Really? Hmm seems I was just lucky to get that dialogue at my first attempt. Didn't replay the battle through autosave or anything.

  • The hag tries to bargain/surrender if she's below about 10% hp, but she only starts the dialogue on her own tactical turn

  • @AlexP Indeed, I noticed as much on my 2nd playthrough when I came with a much more powerful party than during 1st playthrough. Killed her in a single round and then there was no dialogue so I had to load a save :)
