I have just downloaded Slenderman but I am unable to play the game because it says "No soundcard detected. Sound might not play". I am trying to play the game on my work PC, which does not have a sound card.

The game continues to show this message again and again, and I have to kill the process to end the message.

Can I play Slenderman without having any soundcard installed in my pc?

  • Technically: Almost no PCs have a soundcard (as in, a silicone chip you plug into your computer). Instead, they have a sound device on the motherboard, which are nowadays so good you don't even need a sound card (but they're still nice to have). Slenderman is therefore probably talking about a sound device, and can't detect yours for some reason. If your computer has audio jacks on the back and can produce sound, you have a working, enabled sound device. – doppelgreener Aug 29 '12 at 9:28
  • Sorry i forgot to mention this but i am not allowed to install the driver for the onboard sound device hence this question. @JonathanHobbs – Answer_42 Aug 29 '12 at 9:35

The nature of the message implies that it is not a critical error, and you should be able to continue past it. have you tried patching the game? Sounds like a bug that this message pop up more than once per run. – kotekzot Aug 29 '12 at 11:19
  • You can install and play games, but not drivers? – Colin D Aug 30 '12 at 14:09

Not actually related to your question, but you really should not be playing video games on hardware provided by your boss. That's just not smart. – Nelson Oct 17 '16 at 9:01
