Possible Duplicate:
What factors determine enemy levels or: How do enemy levels scale to the player character’s?

I'm currently working my way through Borderlands 2, first play-through, level 25 (I know, I don't get a lot of time to play games in general, let alone a game where I need to complete an area to avoid going through it again)

When I first fought 'Boom Bewm' (the twin midgets with the massive turret/gun near Liars Berg) I got really lucky and got the Orange Grenade Mod:

  • Level: 4
  • Name: Bonus Package
  • Damage: 232x10
  • Fuse: ~2 seconds (I can't remember exactly)
  • Grenade Type: MIRV (10 Child Grenades)
  • Element: Explosive
  • Red text: 2x more awesome, bonus extreme! (Each child grenade spawns it's own set of child grenades)

Needless to say this grenade has pretty much carried me through some sticky situations. (oh if only it was a sticky grenade, that'd make the best pun). However it's becoming less useful as time goes on, and I still haven't come across an adequate replacement.

I then hit upon the brilliant idea of revisiting Boom Bewm a few times and farm another one. Except, they hadn't levelled up at all. I killed them pretty easily a couple of times and managed to find another legendary - slightly worse than mine (9 grenades instead of 10, +4 damage per grenade, longer fuse time), but still level 4.

Most of the Borderlands community seems to agree that farming bosses to get the legendary you want is the way to go, but the one thing I can't seem to find out is:

Do any of the mini-bosses (and therefore, their loot drop) scale with your level?

Note: In Borderlands 1, I could revisit say Jakob's Cove after completing it and the enemies (and bosses) had re-scaled to my new level.

Note 2: I'm not talking about scaling when you start a second play-through (because I'm probably not going to), and I already know that the second play-through scales to match your current level when you start.

  • They scale after beating playthrough 2. If you're not going to play up to that point, then there's no point in asking. – Jeff Mercado Dec 17 '12 at 7:13
  • @Strike - Thanks, the answer on that question helped a lot. Jeff - Not knowing that they scaled (after playthrough 2 or otherwise) is the reason I asked. Wanting an answer to a question is the point of asking a question, even if the answer wasn't one that I wanted :P. – Robotnik Dec 17 '12 at 9:20

@Robotnik A note about your Borderlands 1 comment: I'm pretty sure BL1 works the same as BL2, in that enemies in certain areas are limited to certain levels during Playthrough 1 & 2. However, the DLCs are a special exclusion. They generally scale to roughly the player's level, though I think they do have a minimum. This explains why you could revisit Jakob's Cove and find higher-level enemies - that area is part of a DLC. – Iszi Feb 27 '13 at 21:53
