Doing a forced update is just intended to make sure you start from a "clean", unmodded, original Minecraft before you start adding any mods. It's only "necessary" once, and I don't even see why it's necessary at all in the first place unless you're a YouTube mod reviewer and regularly need to reset Minecraft to "factory defaults", so to speak. In fact, if you do a forced update every time you add a new mod, you will erase all the mods previously installed.
