Pokemon Go Battle Dynamics

I've been getting requests to help people with choosing Pokemon for the Go mobile game but I myself don't have it. I have only played Pokemon games on the Nintendo handhelds consoles. I can't give good recommendations without knowing these things first. So if anyone could answer these questions I’d be grateful!

  1. Are type defense and offensive effectiveness calculated as they are in the regular games? That is to say in Pokemon Go, is fighting 4 times effective against a dual dark rock type Pokemon but only 1/4 times as effective against a dual flying fairy type Pokemon?

  2. When attacking with a Pokemon with two types which type is used when it is attacking?

  3. Can a Pokemon learn an attack move that doesn't correspond to its type? For example, in the regular games Charizard can learn the move earthquake despite it being a Fire and Flying type Pokemon.

  4. Do type immunities exist? For example, how Normal is immune to Ghost and how Fairy is immune to Dragon.

  5. Do Pokemon have abilities like levitate, intimidate, hustle etc?

  6. Is there a correlation between a Pokemon's official stats and those in the Pokemon Go game? For example, officially Alakazm has a high 120 Special Attack and a high 110 base Speed does that mean that he is able to attack more often, move faster and hit harder in the Pokemon Go game? Conversly it has very low Defense and HP and ok Special Defense. Does this mean that he is also a brittle Pokemon in battle? Are those official stats and characteristics reflected in the Pokemon Go stats for Alakazm?

  7. Using the same example above is there a special/physical split? That is to say will Alakazm or any Pokémon with a low defense stat die quickly to an opponent that launches a physical attack like stone edge or close combat? Conversely will Alakazm or any Pokémon with a decent or high special defense stat defend better against a Pokémon that launches a special attack like flamethrower or shadow ball?

  8. If a Pokemon in Pokemon Go does have high attack stats does this mean they get very powerful moves. For example, Gengar has a high special attack does this mean he is taught sludge bomb instead of something like venoshock? Can you choose what move to learn?

  9. Do moves like sludge bomb and venoshock have their own attack stats? Or is damage simply calculated based on other things?

  10. Are there status conditions like poison, burn, paralyze, etc? Do these have the same effect as in the regular game? For example, how a burned Pokémon has its attack lowered by 50%?

  11. If status conditions exist are Pokemon immunities taken into account? For example, how fire type Pokémon are immune to burns.

  12. Are there status only moves that cause conditions like poison and paralyze? Are there moves like swords dance and rest that can raise a Pokémon’s attack and heal a Pokémon respectively?

  13. Are there attack moves that require the Pokemon to rest such as Hyper Beam?

  14. Are there items that can used in battle? For example, potions to restore HP or can a Pokémon carry an item like a Choice Band which increases a user’s attack?

  15. Do effort values, EVs exist?

  16. Do individual values, IVs exist?

  17. Do battles have weather? If so, does it have an effect on the battlefield? Do weather abilities (if abilities exist at) get triggered?

I ask these questions because in the regular games there is a fairly clear tier list of Pokémon which are competitive and those aren’t as competitive. This tends to be based on a Pokemon’s stats, abilities, move pool and viable strategies using said characteristics. I was wondering if I could apply the current tier list used in the regular Pokemon games to that in Pokemon Go. That way I can give better recommendations.
