Debuting in 2009, Borderlands was initially released by Gearbox Software. The series is most known for its humor and cell-shaded artistic style, as well as its focus on co-operative game play, and randomly generated loot system.

The series has spawned several spin-offs, including a game for the iPhone, and a Telltale series.
