In playing various FPSs on consoles I occasionally notice people who appear to be able to turn on a dime (pulling stunts like 360 spin and kill) or flick their aim to my precise location far faster than I can. While some of this can likely be explained by them just being better players than me some of it seems to be down to people adjusting their sensitivity settings.

Now for PCs where everyone has different mouse/keyboard hardware having configurable sensitivity makes sense to me because everyone's hardware is different. But on consoles where everyone has approximately the same (and mostly official) controllers why do such games need to include sensitivity configuration?

Personally I have never had the need to change my sensitivity from the default and it seems like that this only serves as a potentially unfair advantage to the more hardcore players.

Anyone care to enlighten me why console FPSs need sensitivity settings?
