A set of action role-playing/digital pet games by Gamefreak for the Game Boy, and the first generation of Pokémon games. First released in 1996 as 'Pocket Monsters Red and Green' and later 'Pocket Monsters Blue' in Japan, it re-released in 1998 outside of Japan as Pokémon Red Version and Blue Version. 'Pokémon Yellow Version: Special Pikachu Edition' was also made as a tie-in to the anime series.
