Frame rate (also known as frame frequency) is the frequency (rate) at which an imaging device produces unique consecutive images called frames. Frame rate is most often expressed in frames per second (FPS) and is also expressed in progressive scan monitors as hertz (Hz).

What do the dots next to the fps counter mean?
one dot means framerate is simulation bound (lots of gameplay to sim, GPU/render is fine)
two dots means GPU is saturated
three dots means the Render thread (which feeds the GPU) is limiting the framerate …
