Technically - you do not need to purchase anymore games. However, you will need to purchase and download (possibly) Counter Strike: Source and Team Fortress 2 for a lot of the textures and other game objects.
From the Steam page for Garry's Mod:
Please note: Some multiplayer servers and game-modes might require you to own other games - such as Counter-...
Yes, you can (even CS:S maps)!
Downloading the appropriate files from here (click on 'Garry Content') as shown in this video will work (He'll show you where to place the files).
It's just textures (and maps, if you need it) for use as an addon to Garry's Mod.
This is completely legal because there is another [more complicated] method listed on the ...
Actually, there's now a new tool called the gravity hull stool I think. It makes a localized physics field so you can move around on any surface even if its spinning or moving at light speed and you won't be affected by the outside world. Extremely useful for moving spaceships and vehicles.
Posting this question/answer here, since the solution doesn't appear to exist anywhere else (outside of my own steam forums post):
Apparently Garry's Mod uses Internet Explorer somehow for its "FastDL" downloading. If Internet Explorer can't connect to the internet for whatever reason, then Garry's Mod won't download anything.
In my case, IE was set to ...
One thing you can try (with sv_cheats on) is the console command r_drawclipbrushes 2. This should draw all clipping brushes as solid objects, letting you see most invisible walls/floors/ceilings/etc. Set it back to 0 to turn it off.
The addons that really do "add on" to GMod; that improve it as a sandbox, toolset, and game - the ones I'd consider "essential", are:
Advanced Duplicator 2
The unofficial Wiremod extras pack (UWSVN)
The less essential but not on the list (due to being too specific or too akward for multiplayer)...
hud_saytext_time 0 should do what you want. It's a client ConVar that controls the amount of time chat messages are visible for before decaying -- obviously setting it to 0 will cause them to not show up at all.
Do note that you can still see messages if you actually open up the chat: if that's an issue, you can simply unbind whatever keys you use for chat (...
You don't have to have any other games in order to actually play GMod.
But it is highly recommended to have HL2 + ep1/2 + CSS + TF2 in order to:
use their maps and content
use addons or mods requiring those games
GMod is more fun with having more stuff at your disposal. A basic installation with no other resources lacks of almost everything when it comes ...
I'm not familiar with DarkRP, but for all non-Workshop addons I've ever used, you put them in steamapps/common/GarrysMod/garrysmod/addons. If it is on the Workshop, just subscribe to it and it will be installed automatically.
The unsubscribed addons will load as long as you're in offline mode on Steam. When you're in offline mode, Steam does this wonderful thing it should always do, and forgets which addons you are subscribed to, or not; and loads every single file you have in your addons folder.
WARNING: if you have 200+ addons with a lot of custom content, you will want to ...
As far as I can tell, you cannot priorities addons for now through the Steam Workshop
I have tried for games such as Portal 2 & Civilization 5, and there is no possible way to control there
It is possible that this can be different in Garry's Mod, but unless the game controls the downloading of addons through the game itself, I would highly doubt, as it ...
Looking at the SteamAPI documentation, this does appear to be normal:
If the user outside a game chooses to join, your game will be launched with the parameter +connect_lobby <64-bit lobby id>, or with the callback GameLobbyJoinRequested_t if they're already in-game.
I can't find anything in the documentation for +connect p2p, but I'm sure its ...
The short answer, Steam does not have the Screenshots. Unless you've uploaded them to your profile in which case they'd be here, under Screenshots
If they aren't there , the only place you'll find them is the HDD you saved them to
What about running a local multiplayer game with a low player count? (to prevent others from joining) That should make the gamemode behave as usual, without the extra people.
(You can probably create a server through the Multiplayer menu.)
Maybe I found something around (and your idea is awesome, actually)
In your GMOD installation you should see a folder like this: lua/autorun/server/
Create your LUA script (noguns.lua) with a text editor and paste this in:
If you are using the version of stranded found on the workshop, then you should be able to find it by clicking sandbox located in the bottom right of your screen whilst on the main menu. If you found stranded in a location other than the steam workshop (eg. http://garrysmod.org), then it is more than likely outdated due to the major changes between Garry's ...
Yes there is somewhat, not a limit of what content or anything however there is a limit on how many Lua files may be loaded at once.
The current limit seems to be 4096. I doubled it so it should now be 8192. If that didn't change anything let me know, maybe there's another ...
To do this, you need to "bind keys".
Binding keys is the process of "binding" a function to a key, in other words, you specify a specific key, and then what you want to happen when you press that key.
By binding the Suit Zoom button to a key, (which in HL2 actually zooms in your view), you can select what you want to say from a list of options.
You have to click on Friends button and select Offline. It will show you as offline in friends list, but you will still be online on steam. You won't be able to see your friend list, but you can still play with them if you join through other means (web profile or game browser within the game).
Source games use a significantly newer version of BSP than GoldSrc does.
You might be able to open a Garry's Mod map in Counter-Strike: Source due to it using a similar game engine, but not in Counter-Strike 1.6.
There is no such command built in, but if you have Wiremod installed, it provides a toolcpanel command that sets both toolgun and its context menu. You can use it like bind t "toolcpanel wire_adv".
Found the answer in this thread.
Based on the convars and defaults listed here, 25% (rounded down, min 1) of players will be traitor, and 13% (rounded down) will be detective. Note that both settings are adjustable for servers and there are also settings (listed on the page linked) for setting a max for both.
ttt_traitor_pct (def. 0.25): Percentage of total players that will be
Are you running the server on a local machine at your place? In that case, try using internal LAN address to connect to it. If that still fails, the issue is with your computer's firewall, possibly. Try disabling it momentarily and connect to the server again. If that also fails, then the problem is most likely with SteamCMD. Check that you haven't ...
Are you downloading the legacy version of DarkRP from Garrysmod.org? If that is the case, the garrysmod folder is now located in
Also, you will need to change the text file name inside the DarkRP folder from info.txt to addon.txt. Once that's done, just drop it in the addons folder.
However, I ...
This is actually an extremely common problem. Whether intentional or a part of the code, fading doors do not rebind to their respective keys upon reloading a save and also when rejoining a server.
The only way I can recommend to fix it is to manually go to each door and then recreate it as a fading door. I understand this is painful, but I have not found ...
