In minecraft, I'm about to make a portal and enter the Nether, but I have a problem with this. Supposedly when you enter the Nether, you can be directly above lava. Nn'stuff. ThisThis is fixed by the game sending the portal you create in the Nether to a safe area. Unfortuanely, that means that when you RE-enterreenter that portal to go back to the real world place thing, you end up a million miles away from your settlement. And are therefore quickly destroyed by everything. D: You follow? My question

Is that true, and if it is: IS THIS TRUE, how can I find my way back? and if so: HOW CAN YOU USE THE COMPASS TO GET BACK Can I use the compass to find back, and how does that work?

What really happens when you enter a portal in minecraft? (Or should I say, when you come back?)
