In space combat, how do you disable shield generatorsshielded targets?

I'm playing the space battles and I can't seem to disable the shield generatorsshielded targets. When I shoot at them (I assume it's them as they're yellow outlined reticules) they flash blue.

I'm guessing you need a technique in order to take them out, but I'm not sure what to try.
