I'm a Siren and I'm getting almost nothing but Fire elemental guns; about 90% of guns have been fire, most of the rest Explosive and a scare few Shock.

Are the elemental varieties more common at different levels? I've seen zero corrosive/shock guns so far. I'm level 12 at the moment.

Keep leveling up, corrosive guns have more chance of spawning later on. You'll find plenty when you hit 15 or so, and don't forget to check the vending machines which have them from time to time.

Hm, I started seeing them after the Loader (robot) enemies appeared in a mission actually, which is very conveinient. Not sure if it was the level or the mission

According to this, corrosive weapons start spawning at level 13 in particular

The earliest non-chance way to get a corrosive weapon is to do the side mission "Rock, Paper, Genocide: Corrosive Weapons!" which becomes available from Marcus shortly after you get to Sanctuary. (You'll need to complete his incendiary and shock weapon missions first.) He'll give you a corrosive weapon (invariably a pistol, it seems, but the type varies) in order to shoot the target dummy. At this point you can leave the mission be (do not shoot the target dummy!) and you will have that pistol from that point on, though the type will change randomly if you reload from a save. (If you shoot the dummy you'll have the pistol for the rest of that game session, but it will not reappear if you reload from a save.)
