I've always had an issue with Skyrim Immersive Creatures: it adds Rieklings from the dragonborn expansion to mainland Skyrim. The biggest problem with this is it spawns those OP mounted rieklings the rift, making it impossible to traverse as a low-level character.

I've tried various things to deal with this. I tried playing as an orc for the berserker rage ability, but even that didn't help much. Besides, its a once-per-day power, so its not too useful for walking the roads. I also tried to use Skyrim Underground, hoping that would let me bypass them. Instead I found that its full of super tough enemies that clearly aren't meant for a low-level player. I've read you're not really supposed to even try it until you're at least level 30.

I am at a loss as to what to do. Yeah, I could disable them in the MCM or install mods that make me more powerful, but I was wanting to do this for a challenge. Is there anyway to handle these enemies before you get to a level where you should be before going to Solstheim? I've tried to just avoid the rift, but for my challenge I find that impossible. I have to go there just to start this major quest mod, and I also need to join the guild in Riften. What could I possibly do to deal with over powered enemies that are meant for higher levels? Does Kyne's Peace affect them? I doubt it. Or Voice of the Sky? I'm really at a loss as to how to handle this aspect of SiC.

A possible solution: illusion. With hypnotic gaze (requires illusion 30), and vampirism, a novice clam spell can affect enemies up to level 46.25 (no idea how rounding would work). That's beyond the max level of a Riekling Charger. Perhaps that could be the key?

  • Why not hire a carriage to travel directly?

When I played the Solstheim DLC for the first time, I used the Fire Breath shout a lot, which you can get from either the Companions' questline or from Paarthurnax when you first meet him. Also, I believe there is a dragon shrine that has a word of the shout too. That shout was very helpful when dealing with Rieklings specifically.
And if you are having any difficulty with traversing the map, Whirlwind Sprint and Become Ethereal are insanely helpful when on legendary mode.
Also, if you are going to The Rift before unlocking shouts, invest points into Stamina and plan a route to avoid the Rieklings.
