When I go on Fortnite and press FN and F11 to go to full screen, my screen turns black for a few seconds, and then it goes full screen, but the resolution gets worse.

When I press FN and F11 to go back to the home screen, the screen goes black and the resolution goes back to normal, but not on full screen. I have updated my BIOS and drivers; I’ve even factory reset my PC.

Specs:

  • Ryzen 5 5600X
  • RTX 3060 12 GB
  • 16 GB of RAM
  • 1 TB of SSD
  • Gigabyte B550M DS3H AC

Any idea what might help?

... Just go settings, set it to full-screen and set whatever resolution you like?

  • FN + F11 is a machine/keyboard specific shortcut (For me it's an airplane mode). Did you tried some different shortcuts that will switch to fullscreen? Also did you tried switching by selecting fullscreen option in Fortnite?

  1. Check in-game resolution settings Launch Fortnite and go to Settings. Make sure the resolution in-game matches your display’s native resolution. Sometimes, when you switch to fullscreen, the game tries to run at a different resolution, which can cause the quality to drop. Set Window Mode to "Fullscreen" (not "Fullscreen Windowed" or "Windowed").
  2. Disable Fullscreen Optimization Right-click on Fortnite.exe (or the shortcut). Go to Properties > Compatibility. Check the box that says Disable fullscreen optimizations. Click Apply and try launching the game again.
  3. Adjust NVIDIA Control Panel Settings Open the NVIDIA Control Panel. Go to Display > Adjust desktop size and position. Under Scaling, set it to No scaling or Aspect ratio. Ensure Perform scaling on: is set to GPU. Click Apply and restart Fortnite.
  4. Update or Rollback Graphics Drivers If you're using the latest NVIDIA drivers and still having issues, you could try rolling back to an earlier stable version of the drivers. Alternatively, ensure your drivers are updated from the NVIDIA website, not just through Windows Update.
  5. Check your refresh rate and resolution Right-click on your desktop and go to Display Settings. Ensure your display resolution is set to your monitor's native resolution. Click Advanced display settings and verify that your refresh rate is set to the correct value (e.g., 60Hz or 144Hz, depending on your monitor).
  6. Try Windowed Fullscreen (Borderless) Sometimes playing in Windowed Fullscreen can avoid resolution or scaling issues, especially if it’s related to how the game interacts with the display driver. If these steps don’t resolve the problem, it could be a conflict between the game, Windows, or a specific driver, in which case checking Epic Games forums for others experiencing similar issues with the same hardware might also help

I think it's cool your using ChatGPT, but I think you should use it to understand how to answer the question and not use it to build the answer in general. I just think you would like to know, because a lot of people like human built answers instead of AI built (why? I'm not sure.) I'd hate to see you loose your hard earned reputation just because you used ChatGPT to build your answer.

You've tried all six of these solutions? If not, which ones have you personally had an experience with? It's preferable to write answers based on your own experience, rather than copy-pasting responses from ChatGPT.
