As of November 2012, GOG started offering the games in Mac format. Both Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 were offered. This was probably be the best/most affordable way to get the games. Fallout Mac CDROMs on Amazon seem way much overpriced (due to their scarcity I assume). Update 1/1/2014: Unfortunatelly GOG has removed all Fallout games from their catalog. As ...

Clarify Differences Between Games In Fallout 3 and New Vegas, power armor was abundant, but only in the hands of certain factions. Namely, the Enclave and the Brotherhood of Steel. Once you encountered the Enclave in Fallout 3, you could have easily had dozens of suits of power armor laying around, just like in Fallout 4. The difference in Fallout 4 is ...

I'm not sure your character will ever really be good at combat with those stats. Your agility is good for ranged skills, but you're too weak to use guns properly. As mentioned, you could go full sneak and speech and try and do the game without combat as much as possible. There are a couple of ways to increase your strength and luck. Ways to increase ...

I recently got a copy on Steam and installed a Fallout FIXT mod (NMA thread). To my taste, it includes all I wanted, most notably: Crash fixes; Wasteland Ghost's Fallout 1 Restoration Project - adds content originally disabled/unfinished in F1; High resolution patch; sfall, a way to control game speed and use mouse wheel in inventory (sic!). Yes, once there ...

It turns out that the problem was that Ian was standing in front of the door trying to get to me, which stopped the guard from leaving. Moving over to the other part of the shop caused Ian to move out of the way, which fixed everything (I robbed Killian blind anyway). He didn't move the first time I went over there, so it may be that you need to save and ...

Attempt (and fail) to steal something from the store. Killian will talk to you and then throw you in jail. After waiting for 24 hours, you will be free to continue exploring Junktown.

According to http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Resting you use the "Pip-Boy 2000 alarm clock function". Open up your pip boy and on the top left you will see the date and time along with a bell icon. By clicking on the bell, you can choose between several resting/waiting options. Waiting/resting is also used to heal yourself, as you heal over time, so it is ...

With the information coming from the wiki itself, there are no rewards for keeping him alive. However, you can keep him alive through all those mutants (in what I assume is the following segment, I have not played the game myself): In the Vault Dweller's memoirs, it is disclosed that Dogmeat died in the Mariposa Military Base after running into a force ...

According to this thread, once you finish the main quest, the game is over.

According to Per Jorner of The Nearly Ultimate Fallout Guide, you will see some benefit in investing skill points into combat skills until you get the maximum 95% chance to hit. As a rule, it's not worth it to raise most skills above 100%. Combat skills can be improved beyond that for an extra edge until you reach the point where you get the maximum ...

Both Fallout 1 and 2 are now available as Mac versions from gog.com: Fallout 1: http://www.gog.com/gamecard/fallout Fallout 2: http://www.gog.com/gamecard/fallout_2 Update: The Fallout games have been removed from the gog.com catalogue by the end of 2013 (due to legal issues with the owner of the Fallout franchise). The best way to play the games on a Mac ...

One of the things that seems to set Fallout 1 apart from the modern sequels is that you can very quickly improve your equipment. As Javadoc suggested, Small Guns skill is pretty important early, and if you tag Steal as well, you can swipe a hunting rifle, a 10mm SMG, or something else pretty awesome from a guard in just about any town. The point is, you ...

Sbuibek has been working on an OSX version of the "fixes only" installer, which you can find here. It is currently in alpha state.

Ian specifically can only use knives, pistols, and SMGs. I believe that's hard-coded into his AI. Dogmeat can not be given any gear to use except Stimpaks, as he is a dog. Sources: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Ian_%28Fallout%29#Notes http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Dogmeat_%28Fallout%29#Notes

If I remember correctly the Gun Runners by the stock mean the guns located in the same place in the cabinets/chests. Just loot them. If they started to walk around then I think that means they will soon move from the place. However due to bad pathfinding it just takes longer time.

The GOG version is definitely uncensored. On Steam it depends on where you live. However if something is cencored Steam will notice you about that. You can see it in the following screenshot (german store, the orange box right under the video says "reduced violence") Maybe i should advice you to the No Mutants Allowed Forum - unofficial expansion of ...

You have to break high value items down into a combination of caps and other high value/low weight items that you can sell for caps to other merchants (or to the same merchant once they get more caps in stock). Post-apocalyptic economies tend to be heavily weighted toward the barter side of the spectrum. It’s part of the game that there is a certain amount ...

I believe most merchants reset the caps they have available if you stop talking to them and start the dialogue again. (if not, they should refresh over time) As far as where to trade, I think Zack from the Gun Runners in the Boneyard refreshes about 3500 caps. Only other option is to trade for some stuff like ammo as well as caps.

All containers are safe. However, if you want your items to be accesible on the go, you can use your follower as a pack mule. Just steal from them when you want to retrieve your items, but be careful no other NPCs see you!

You can check Sfall mod for Fallout 1 which increases movement and combat speed. More info here. Increase movement and combat speed to up to 10x normal.

Changing download location may work. But if you really want to make sure you can find someone in the country that has the version you want to gift you the game. Or you could just create a new account and choose the country you want during setup and then just gift the game to yourself.

I wasn't able to run Fallout in Wine on OSX (10.11, El Capitan) either. And as stated in the Wine wiki entry for Fallout 1, the game is not working on Mac. You may try to install VirtualBox, setup an Ubuntu 14.04 (both are free) and try the app in there. If it's not working you have to get a Windows license and setup a Windows virtual machine with ...

If you want to know if it is possible to complete the game with a non-combat oriented character, the answer is yes. In fact you can complete it without killing any characters in combat. You might not gain a ton of experience however, and it might not be very much fun. If you want to know if unarmed is a viable combat option, I defer to this answer.

Turns out it was just bad luck. I rested until midnight, then all NPCs went to bed and the door was clear to use.

According from what I read the US version is uncensored while the EURO version is censored. So it would depend what region you are buying the game from. The worst thing about the censored version all they really did was change the sprites for kids to be invisible, the kids are still in your game but invisible! This was apparently done because European games ...

Assuming you have or can get the necessary files (I downloaded mine from GOG, updated the Wineskin to be Yosemite compatible, and downloaded patches), you my also be interested in using the hi-res patch, which can be done using these excellent instructions for Mac. It worked for me.
