A 2000 tactical FPS by Valve Corporation, originating as a Half-Life modification. Involves two teams, terrorists and counter-terrorists.
CS began as a Half-Life mod. A tactical FPS involving terrorists and counter-terrorists developed by Valve and originally released in 2000. Its a fast-paced and team-oriented gameplay has stayed relatively the same throughout the years. In it, two teams(each team consist of five players), the Counter-Terrorists and the Terrorists, fight to complete an objective or eliminate the opposing team. Although basic, it is considered one of the most revolutionary online games of all time.
Counter-Strike has two major variants still in heavy use today:
- 1.6 - This is the last major version of the original Half-Life mod and is delivered using the Steam platform. It has stopped upgrading version numbers since 2003 when 1.6 came out, but is still updated via Steam, just new version numbers are not issued.
- Source - Released in 2004, this was a major overhaul for Counter-Strike. The game was updated to use Valve's Source game engine, allowing for upgraded graphics and utilization of more modern audio hardware.
