Because Minecraft is digitally signed. META-INF contains a signature file (.SF) that accounts for all the files within the JAR and their checksums, and Mojang's actual signature (.RSA). When that signature checks out, you know it wasn't tampered with and comes from the source that signed it (in this case, Mojang). When you do tamper with it by installing ...

This is actually a very good question. "Note" You should have the latest version of Java installed before trying this as you need that to play Minecraft. For the client version First you download and run your 'regular Minecraft' at least once. This ensures that your .minecraft folder has been made (if you don't know what that folder means, it's the ...

Solved it! A meandering discussion on the Talk page for the server.properties article on the Minecraft Wiki indicates that this is Forge's fault. Apparently it redefines spawn-protection to be a boolean that turns protection on or off entirely (which you can't do in vanilla), and defines a new variable, spawn-protection-size for what the former variable ...

It depends on the mods- Some mods are client-side only, and can be used without others needing them. An example of this would be minimap mods such as Zan's or Rei's, UI mods such as NEI/TMI, or shader mods. These mods don't add any new blocks or anything that your friend will be able to see- They simply change things on your client. Generally, if a mod adds ...

There doesn't seem to be any official way. Then again, modding the game by splaying open and modifying the internals of the .jar file was never really officially supported, either. The new launcher is, ultimately, part of a rather large series of changes to Minecraft, including making mods actually something the game supports via the new Resource Pack stuff, ...

Those are closed captions you can find out more about them here: http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Subtitles If you go into the "Music & Sound" options you should find the option to turn them off. For clarification, this is not caused by mods.

It is a Flux Rift, and part of the Thaumcraft mod: The Flux Rift is an immobile entity added by Thaumcraft 6. It spawns when Flux in the local chunk's aura exceeds 75% of the chunk's Vis cap. Flux Rifts are a source of Void Seeds, Primordial Pearls, and Taint. Be sure to move away from it, because Every 30 seconds, the rift will drain some Flux ...

No, you can only play multiplayer if you have the same version of Minecraft and the same version of mods. It is however fairly simple to install something like Feed the Beast and have multiple copies of Minecraft installed at the same time, this way your friend can have mods to play multiplayer and when he's playing alone he can play vanilla Minecraft ...

The reason you can't place modded blocks is because your server isn't modded. You've placed the mods where a modded server could find them, but that's Server Modding Step #2 and you never did Server Modding Step #1: install Forge. Forge is the most important mod, since it is what allows a server to use other mods at all. What you're seeing, is your client ...

Shaders and shaders mods are entirely clientside, so shaders shouldn't affect your ability to connect to a server. If it's telling you that the authentication servers are down, that should mean that Minecraft's actual login servers are down, disabling connection to any servers. You may also have a firewall blocking connections or some other issue.

I did manage to build a server but I've waited before posting an answer to make sure I could maintain it myself, allowing me to post a more complete answer. Things You'll Need A zip file archive utility (e.g. WinRAR, 7-Zip) Getting Started You're going to need to build a Minecraft client along with the server in order to test it properly, unless of ...

The way I go around it is by having separate sub-folders for each profile I use in my .Minecraft directory. For example, I have a folder called 'profiles' which stores the different profile directories which can differ depending on the version or whether or not I use mods. Thus, each different profile I have in the launcher is configured to its respective ...

There are no easy ways to increase the growth ticks in Regrowth, until mid/end game. So as a result upgrading crops takes time. This setup is for afk-ing, allowing the player to leave for a decent period of time and come back later to get the results. Specifically in this pack weeds are disabled so you will not have to worry about them overrunning. Using a ...

As you said "natural selection of other blocks", you will not get any blocks. There is a complex formula that tells the game what blocks may spawn at what location, which includes depth. In other words: It's not possible to get a natural selection of other blocks to replace the stone. The custom generator for Minecraft allows you to generate worlds without ...

You only need to patch the client, as all this does is managing how things are load and displayed. For communication it just requests more chunks if you want to display more, there is nothing that needs to be changed server side to accomplish that. So, there is no need to patch the server.

It depends on whether they are client or server side mods. Something like NEI ( Not enough items ) or a minimap is a client side mod. These need to be installed only on the client. They are things that add UI (User Interface) Elements. Anything that adds items or mobs is a server side mod. These need to be installed on both the server and the client. So ...

Minecraft Forge is a modding API (Application Programming Interface), which makes it easier to create mods, and also make sure mods are compatible with each other. The method that you are trying to use, by deleting META-INF and placing the files is not the way to install mods anymore. The new Minecraft launcher prevents modification of the actual game files,...

You are trying to use a pattern to make the tools. What you need to make is a Smeltery, and then melt down aluminium and copper together to make aluminium brass. Make a normal wooden/stone hammer head and place it on a casting table. Pour out the molten aluminium brass onto the hammer head to create a hammer head cast. You can then pour molten metal (iron, ...

Short answer : Yes, you have to edit "main.cfg" in the Iguana's Tinker Tweaks config file. Long answer : Yes, you have to edit "main.cfg" in the Iguana's Tinker Tweaks config file, but if you use tinkers tools instead of the vanilla tools you won't have to change the config. Iguana's Tinker Tweaks is made to add some difficulty to the pre-obsidian part of ...

The only way to get an "infinite stack" of anything would be to set up a clock that drops an item, constantly. You can't hold an "infinite" stack of anything in Minecraft. So, set up a command block to drop a fire charge in a certain location, then hook it up to a red-stone clock. Then, set up a hopper beneath that location, and feed it into your dispenser.

It depends on what type of mod you are talking about, and whether you're are talking about LAN or actual servers. If you're talking about LAN, then any mods that do not physically add anything into the game, such as TooManyItems, a minimap mod, or the shader mod, you should not encounter any problems. But if it's a mod that adds new items, like RedPower, or ...

This isn't a problem with the shaders mods you have. The error "Failed to login: Access Token can not be null or empty" is an error indicating that the way you logged in to minecraft bugged out. If the person getting that error is still logging in with their username instead of a new style account they can need to go to Mojangs account migration page and ...

If there is no mods button, that means Minecraft Forge is not installed or loaded. Forge is a tool that facilitates the use of mods in Minecraft, and is a requirement for many mods. That sounds like the Rediscovered Mod. You get there by right-clicking on a bed (the fact that you were holding a thaumometer doesn't matter). It is a Sky Dimension with Giants and Pigman Villages, among other things... The Rediscovered Mod adds a bunch of blocks, mobs, and items that were either concepts or only around briefly in Minecraft history. And ...

You can install Minetweaker mod and edit your recipes. This is easiest way to do so, you can still search for mod adding the recipe and possibly try to find if it has config for disabling that, but if not, you have no more choices. Using Minetweaker is kind of easy. However if you put it on server, all the clients need that, too. Best is to ask developer ...
